Car Audio Speakers – A Must For Every Car

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Are you the proud owner of your own car? And do you find yourself spending hours each day driving around in your car? If you answered yes to both these questions then you will enjoy reading my short article on car audio speakers. If there is one thing you do the entire time you spend in your car aside from driving, it’s listening to your radio.

Whether you often find yourself listening to your favorite radio station, compact disc, or iPod playlist, you will enjoy your listening experience more if your car is equipped with good speakers. The stock speakers your car originally comes with just won’t do. That’s why you should invest in one’s that produce quality sound and will last for years.

There are many things you need to take into consideration when buying speakers. Firstly, you should decide on the budget you are willing to spend on them. This will allow you to narrow down your list significantly. This will also help you decide on whether to buy brand new speakers or used ones.

The next step would be to decide on what brand of speakers to buy. Unlike before, there are so many different brands to choose from. Each of these has their own kind of specialty. Keep in mind you can also find second hand units of branded speakers if you know where to look. The internet is a very good source for information on the products as well as the products themselves.

Do you want to enjoy the ultimate car audio experience? Then purchase car audio speakers immediately.

Predicting the Evolution of Car Audio Video Systems Not Easy

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Nowadays anyone can install a state of the art video system in his or her car without spending exorbitant amounts of money, and mobile audio and video equipment has become such a common place in cars that we no longer get too surprised at the sight of such systems. However it wasn’t that long ago, let’s say just over ten years, that being able to spot a video screen displaying images inside a vehicle was something out of this world.

When looking at the evolution of the car audio-video industry since 1995, we can’t help but marble how far these systems have evolved in just over 10 years, and it makes you wonder where the technology will be headed in the next decade. In 1995 for instance, car makers were barely on the brink of discarding the old tape deck players and beginning to standardize on CD players. Today it is becoming rarer and rarer to spot a car on the street with one of those old CD players, which just 13 years ago were still considered the latest and greatest in technology.

And soon after the CD player evolution, came the MP3 players, which were closely followed by video screens with few capabilities like the ability to display a limited amount of theme graphics to accompany the music. Even these systems were at the time considered state of the art technologies worth competing against.

By contrast today’s car audio systems, come integrated with an array of capabilities both visible and hidden, which make the old systems look ancient. Today’s video display resolutions are far clearer and produce less glare, DVD and game playing capabilities are built right in, IPOD and MP3 storage capability are more and more common place. Cell phone receiver support is also becoming more standard. Not to mention the advent of digital systems like XM and Sirius as well as the terrestrial digitization of the airwaves.

Predicting where the evolution of the car audio and video technology is headed in the next 3 years should not be too hard considering that there is so many standalone technologies around as mentioned in the previous paragraph, that scream at the need to be integrated into one single system and I believe that is where we will see the Alpine, JBL, and Pioneer systems headed in the next 3 years. The harder part in my opinion is predicting where the evolution of car audio and video systems will be in 10 years from now. Stay Tuned.

Car Audio Subwoofer Basics

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Typical car audio systems have small speakers with limited ability to reproduce low-frequency sounds. Car audio subwoofers can add more depth to a car audio system by reproducing frequencies below 150 hertz. A subwoofer can add strong and powerful basses to your car audio.

Most car audio subwoofers are installed in the trunk due to space limitations in the cabin of the car. Subwoofers are usually 10 inches or 12 inches in diameter although they can be as big as 34 inches and as small as 4 inches.

Wider subwoofers allow for more efficient air displacement which is critical for low frequencies.

The amplifier for car audio subwoofers can be integrated into the cabinet or installed as a separate unit. The amplifier should have an electronic crossover to filter out high-frequency sounds before the signal is passed to the subwoofer.

Although car audio subwoofers are usually round in shape, recently manufactures have been introducing subwoofers in new shapes. Square subwoofers have been released by Stillwater Designs and other companies have introduced triangular and hexagonal subwoofers. These innovative designs may be easier to install in cars with limited space, but there is no acoustical advantage to nonround shapes.

The type of enclosure for car audio subwoofers influences the kind of sound that is produced.

There are five basic types of subwoofer enclosures -

* sealed,

* ported,

* bandpass,

* passive radiator and

* transmission line systems.

For car use, the most practical type of enclosure is the sealed enclosure because it requires the minimum space and matches the audio requirements of a typical car interior.

There are many premade enclosures for car audio subwoofers on the market. Alternatively, you can have one custom-made or build one yourself. When you buy a subwoofer driver, you will usually receive a spec sheet which gives you guidelines for enclosure requirements. Also check out the spec sheets for power requirements and linear response – a flat response will give the truest sound.

Many people are tempted to crank up the sound when they have car audio subwoofers installed. Although it sounds great, take care – prolonged exposure to loud sounds can permanently affect your hearing.

Adding Video to Your Car

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Placing a mobile video system in one’s car is no longer exclusively for car enthusiast, high rollers and rappers. Today, you are bound to see suburbanites and families with video systems built into their vehicles. They are a great way to keep children and adults entertained while on the road, especially on long trips. Sometimes it is difficult to find a radio station or music that everyone likes. It’s a little easier to find a great movie that’s good for the entire family. Mobile video is an affordable addition to any vehicle and instantly ups the entertainment value.

There are some minivans and SUVs that come with built in video systems. For those that do not, it’s very easy to have them installed them in one’s car, truck or van. There are many reasons to get a video system installed in one’s car or to purchase a vehicle that already has one installed. We will discuss some of those reasons below.

The first reason one is simply for entertainment value. The second reason is to show off a little bit, and the third reason is that the video systems not only show videos, but also can act as GPS navigational systems.

A video which shows movies can instantly make long trips more bearable. This is especially true if one has young kids who grow restless and bored pretty easy. Instead of them fighting with each other to entertain themselves, they can watch a movie. This gives a little bit of peace and quiet to Mom and Dad. Individuals can watch all types of movies and they can cater them to whoever’s in the car. This may mean of cartoons for while, kiddy movies and even those of a more grown-up variety. Another option is to use the video system to play video games. This can keep teenagers busy and engaged for hours.

Having a video system installed in your car can also help you show off a little bit. Dash receivers and receivers in car seats are very impressive and are sure to get you a lot of positive strokes.

For individuals who do a lot of driving or who get lost often and/or easily, video systems can also act as GPS systems. They can tell you exactly how to get to a particular place. You won’t get lost and you won’t waste time driving around, which wastes gas. With gas prices being so expensive, any methods that can improve fuel efficiency are a big deal.

When setting up a video system, you will need three primary things. They include something for audio. This could include wireless headphones, if you don’t want to force everyone in the car to listen to the movie. You will also need a monitor and you will some type of media player. This can be either a VCR or DVD. You will be able to buy kits that have all these components or you can just hand over the duties to an auto shop that will allow you to pick out a video system and then install it.
